Show conjunctivitis the door in 48 hours!
Last week I had a major panic! Whilst enjoying a favourite TV show with my hubby, I noticed my eye itching. Hmm, something didn’t feel right and I was suddenly horrified to realised I was coming down with conjunctivitis (or ‘pink eye’). In a job like mine, very much hands on(!) that is not a good thing. Firstly, if you’ve never had it, it is extremely contagious (if you have kids, then you already know the horrors!) – it is easily transported to objects from your fingers, after rubbing your eyes, and is happy to sit there until someone else touches said object and DING, they have it too, yarg! It’s very itchy, very sore and a nightmare for your vision, so avoiding it like the plague is the route to take!
Anyhoo, most people will be given a remedy by the doctor of eye drops a few times a day. Let me tell you – and there is research on this – that stuff is no better than washing your eyes with water, and will take 7-14 days of regular use to clear it! (it’s more the act of regularly cleaning your eyes that fixes it than the drops).
Well folks, I have a fantastic, cheap, easy, natural and extremely accessible cure for you all which will kick conjunctivitis’ butt in 24 – 48 hours, and that, my friends, is your friendly neighbourhood tea tree oil! It’s so great and gentle, you can even use it on your baby!
All you need is two things:
- 1/4 – 1/2 tsp any gentle moisturising cream
- *1 drop tea tree oil (*less for a child)
*If you are applying this to a childs eyes, reduce the amount of tea tree oil by simply running your finger along the rim of the oil bottle for a slightly smaller amount, then mix with the cream and apply in the same way as for an adult.
With clean hands, drop around 1/4-1/2 of cream in your palm (or a pot, if you prefer), add the tea tree oil and mix. Apply the tea tree cream to the orbit of your eye – around the outer edge of the bony part of your eye area e.g. along the eyebrow and around the outside of the socket. Please be clear, DO NOT apply the cream to your eyelids, soft undereye area OR YOUR EYE!
The beneficial properties of the oil will penetrate through to where it is needed without harm and you may experience a cooling effect, this is normal and quite soothing. If you do this 2-3 times a day from the moment you notice the infection, you should be clear within 24-48 hours. If you do have any ooziness around your eye, gentle wipe away with damp cotton wool to help remove infection, but the cream will really speed things up.
I have never known any adverse effects but, in the interest of health and safety, I do have to state that this is under advice only and I am not a medically trained doctor – I just know this stuff, and it works!
This has helped my girls so much, as well as myself, and got me back to work in a flash! So stay bright eyed and bushy tailed, and if you’re not, you now know what to do! 😉
